At GCA, students explore meaningful questions that connect subjects, ideas, experiences, and the real world.
Instead of always beginning with an answer, we often begin with a question.
An Interdisciplinary Unit of Inquiry gives students an important idea or question to investigate over time. Students read, research, experiment, calculate, discuss, create, observe, and engage with the world around them while building understanding across multiple areas of learning.

Each inquiry develops differently, but students repeatedly practice four important habits of learning.
Ask
Students begin with meaningful questions and identify what they want and need to understand.
Explore
They investigate through reading, research, experiments, observation, discussion, experts, and experiences.
Connect
Students discover how ideas from different subjects relate to one another and to the larger world.
Create
Students apply their understanding through projects, presentations, designs, solutions, and authentic work.

An inquiry may naturally bring together multiple areas of study, helping students understand not only what they are learning, but how knowledge fits together.
Space
How do we understand our place in the universe?
A study of space can begin with science, but it does not have to end there. Students can explore astronomy, scale and measurement, history, mythology, technology, scientific observation, writing, and the story of human exploration.
Experiences beyond the classroom deepen that learning. Students may observe, investigate, meet experts, visit places, build models, ask new questions, and connect what they encounter back to their academic work.
The goal is not simply to remember facts about space. It is to help students experience how a meaningful question can lead across disciplines and toward deeper understanding.
Knowledge becomes more powerful when students know how to use it.
Interdisciplinary inquiry does not replace strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science, or the humanities. It gives students opportunities to connect and apply them.
Students practice researching information, evaluating ideas, communicating clearly, collaborating, solving problems, and adapting when an answer is not immediately obvious.
Over time, students begin to see themselves not simply as people completing assignments, but as capable learners who can ask good questions, build understanding, and use what they know.
